String Instrument Care
Basic String Instrument Care
NEVER place an instrument face down, lying on the bridge. When setting down a violin or viola, place the instrument on its back. Cellos should be placed on their side. Use a stand or keep your instrument in its case when not in use.
Always hold the bow at the bottom or by the stick only. DO NOT touch the bow hair.
Wipe down the instrument, strings, and bow stick with a microfiber polishing cloth after playing to remove rosin dust, oil and dirt.
Remember to loosen the bow when you are done playing, to prevent the stick from warping and wearing out the bow hair faster.
Remember to remove the shoulder rest from violins and violas when putting them away to prevent damage to the instrument.
Never leave your instrument in an extreme environment. Excessive heat, cold, humidity and dryness are all damaging to a wood string instrument.
If you suspect a maintenance issue consult a qualified luthier to ensure it keeps playing at its best.

Pristine, Restored 1942 Verne Q Powell Handmade Flute
This solid sterling silver flute was handmade by Verne Q Powell in 1942. Impeccably restored to better than new condition! Clearly and example of the finest workmanship featuring soldered tone holes, pointed keys, closed hole keys and a C foot. This flute came to us in excellent condition. Used only by the original owner who recently passed away and was sold to us by the family. For that reason there was very little wear, but having been stored unplayed for about 25 years, we had to remove dirt and solidified oil from the mechanism. Shockingly it kept the mechanism well preserved. We used top of the line Pisoni pads and no tone hole filing was done or needed to be done.
A flute of this quality is truly a find! Plays so beautifully and effortlessly. The tubing, .016" gives this flute a rich yet quick response. Plays easily at A=440 and slightly above.
